It's a Jolly Holiday with Mary

Yesternight was the night for Mary Poppins the musical at Sydney's Capitol Theatre. I had bought the tickets last year, so to say that this was one of my heavily awaited events for 2011.

Last May-June, the Sydney Town Hall was primped out with Mary-esque promotions, along with the streets in the city. This is a picture of what was illuminated at night last May, by a flickr user.

Didn't get to take any photos from the theatre itself, because from previous Musical-events I already know not to bring a camera to them as the management are very stringent for photography not being allowed inside the theatre, a shame really because it's a really lovely Art Deco theatre inside that should be shared!

My tickets were stellar - from six rows to the front right smack in the middle of that row. Fortunately there wasn't any taller people in front of us and the show itself is such an enjoyable musical to watch, especially if you're an avid Disney fan like yours truly here. It's a toe-tapping, sing-a-long-ing parade of theatrical flair that makes it so watchable and delightful. The set-up for 17 Cherry Lane's prop is an elaborate make of what reminds me of a paper doll house, from the light pastel colours and the 'fold out' style for drawers and other connecting sets that appear.

Matt Lee (of 'So You Think You Can Dance' fame, one of the judges) is Bert whilst Verity Hunt-Ballard is Mary. The two play their roles rather well, especially Mary Poppins. The Banks' Family consisted of George (Philip Quast), Willhemina (Marina Prior) and the children; Michael (Cameron Holmes) & Jane (Rose Shannon-Duhigg).

I also received a Cast Booklet and Brochure, that was part of the ticketing package I had bought.

Whilst waiting in-between Intermission, I wandered over to the Merchandise stall and was happily treated by my Mum to some goodies. She bought me the Australian Original Cast Version of the Musical Songs on CD as well as a Mary Poppins Snowglobe (I am a softie for plushies and Disney snowglobes!) of Mary with her carpet bag and black umbrella over the rooftops of 17 Cherry Lane and there's a wind-up musical feature that sings 'Chim-Chim-Cher-ee'.
